Chapter 126 - 128 Around the City, Part 2

Chapter 126
Chinese Acrobats

I saw Chinese acrobats perform in April of 2002 in Shanghai when I went to China with the La Crosse delegation (LLFA). I’ve never seen anything like their performance. It was amazing, fabulous and many other great words that could describe it. I have always wondered how many hours circus performers practice to make it so great. How many times do they fall or make mistakes before they get their routines down so it is ready for the performances that we see? They make it look so easy, but as we know anything that looks that easy isn’t.

There are circuses like The Greatest Show on Earth, Cirque Du Soleil and others. They are great also but the Chinese Acrobats are different from those performances. You can go on YouTube and see videos of them and what it is like but it is much better if you can actually see them perform.

If anyone goes to China and gets the chance to go to a performance, they should do so.

Chapter 127
Tourist Sites in Luoyang
(Longmen Grottoes, White Horse Temple, The Six Horses, Peony Gardens and Shaolin Temple)

There are many things to see in Luoyang. These are a few. Longmen Grottoes is world famous. Whenever tourists come to Luoyang, Longmen and White Horse Temple are two of the biggest attractions to go to.

The White Horse Temple is the first Buddhist Temple in China.

The Six Horses; full name is The Museum of Luoyang Eastern Zhou Royal Horse and Chariot Pits. It is also known as The Emperor Driving Six. It was discovered in 2002 when workers started digging to expand a shopping center. The museum is underground and built over the sacrificial pit area for the emperors of the Zhou Dynasty. The pit is over 2000 years old. Horses, chariots and other things are buried there. The museum opened October 1, 2003.

There are many different parks in Luoyang along with Peony Gardens throughout the city. People from all over China and the world come to Luoyang during the month of April to see the Peonies and other tourist sites. The Peony is China’s National Flower.

I will mention Shaolin Temple because it is famous for its martial arts training. It is two hours southeast of Luoyang but it is still considered a big tourist attraction if you go to Luoyang. One of the best known people that had gone to Shaolin and trained is the actor Jet Li. I heard that he is the best or one of the best to graduate from there.

There are other places also but these are some of the more famous tourist sites in Luoyang.

Chapter 128

This is one of the temples in Luoyang. They are doing some dancing during the Chinese

These are the two girls that took me to the festival. The girl on the left is my student. She (Dong Gefei) and the other girl (Chen Zixin) are best friends. They were both seniors in high school.
