Chapter 106 Pollution Pollution is certainly a problem in China. The first time that I was in Luoyang, there were many times when I couldn’t see the sky. It was hazy or cloudy. Sometimes I could smell it. There were times when people would wear white masks to cover their faces. It was rare to see blue sky. That is one thing that I really missed seeing. There were days when I could see the blue sky now and then but more times I could not. I could see the moon more at night than I could the sky during the day. I was told that in the month of October the farmers would burn corn stocks after harvest and that is why it was so hazy. They weren’t supposed to but they did. The second time that I was there, it was better. The blue sky could be seen more often and I couldn’t smell anything in the air. The winter of 2011-2012 was a different winter.
